 As a 25-year real estate broker and a certified appraiser, my specialty is lakefront real estate. I am not actively appraising now, as I dedicate all of my time to assisting buyers and sellers. The paragraph below describes my love of the lakes. It was written by my daughter and is specific to the Indian Chain of Lakes in LaGrange County, Indiana but it applies to all lakes in this area which are clean, clear, deep, and glacial made.

"I grew up as a semi-lake kid, spending every summer, and some winter visits, with relatives on the waterfront. I learned to catch frogs and baby turtles before I could form coherent sentences. I played, ate, and sometimes slept near (or on!) the water. The Indian Chain of Lakes provided a safe, beautiful haven to get dirty, learn the hard way, and become the woman I am today. When I look back, I know I spent much more time in my country home than I did near the lakes, but my memories are on the water. There's a certain lake mentality that dominates the Chain of Lakes, a delightful separation from the rest of the world. People slow down, unless they're skiing, of course. They take the time to look at the ducks, the herons, the calm. They forget about their stress and go fishing, floating, or boating. I cherish visiting the lakes, where people wave and smile at everyone they don't know. The Indian Chain of Lakes mesmerizes people. Whether they belong to the 50% of week-ender homeowners, or the year-round residents, they immediately adopt the mindset, the easy smiles, and the inner calm of lake living."
